So My kids wanted to do Dustin's challenge too! They came up with the idea of using "sprinkles" (embossing powder) because it is "shiny". They also came up with the idea of fireworks because in Alaska, you can't do fireworks in the summer. You will burn everything down and you can't see them anyway because it is always sunny. However, during the winter, we break the fireworks out. Tonight they saw a huge firework display for Halloween. They also had a blast coloring Dustin's images. They used water color pencils and markers. My kids are pro crafters...LOL.
For Dustin's anything goes challenge. I colored one of Dustin's images with water color pencils, blending with a brush and blending medium. I used embossing powders to make the clouds, halo, and wings sparkle a little. Added a few red bows, white/clear gems, and blue papers so that this finished project will look cute next to the eldest child's bed (whos room is now done in red, white, and blue). To the right of Dustin's image, I printed a copy of her bedtime prayer. Put it in a frame and tada! She loves it!!
So I went to my first ATC class today. It was a lot of fun! My cards did not come out as great as everyone's seemed to, but I am still proud of them. The theme was "the sun and the moon". So these are the two I came up with. Harmony and Tranquility
So I sectioned of hair and braided it so it snaked around her head... Pinned it all up on the side of her head, though I bed it would make a cute side pony if she had more hair...lol.
I also got a new stamp set... 2step seasons set from stampin up. I kinda made it more than 2 steps though...embossing and using extra colors where I wanted... really cute set though!
Dustin Pike put up some new freebies to download! He wanted to thank his 1000 followers... visit his blog here and become a follower too! The 1000 followers freebie set included a cute little bear with wings leaning over a sign... as soon as I saw this picture I thought of a military wife, thus inspiring my most recent card. I think I will use this card in the Let's Get Cookie Recipe On DDS Challenge Blog Recipe = DDS Image, 3 Designer Papers, Ribbon, and Bling... And here is the finished project...
I had a chance to play with my new favorite crafting tools also... my embossing items. I got the versamarker pen out and used it to color in the wings and then added the kaleidoscope embossing powder. I love the Embossing Heat Tool which I got for only a couple bucks using a 40% off coupon at JoAnns.
Inside the card is the Military Spouse's Prayer...
Lord, Give me the strenth of heart to see, The difference in duty and his love for me, Give me the understanding to know, that when duty calls, he must go, give me the patience to know in my heart, that he is serving his country and doing his part, Give me the strength to carry on, when he's working late or must be gone, Give me a task to do each day, to fill the time while he is away, Give me others who can share, the ups and downs and who'll really care, Give me the wisdom to get me through, And Lord, while our family is here, Keep us healthy, safe and ful of cheer.
I got this stamp from Courtney and love playing with it! I was working on a card when I fell in love with all the colors and elements and decided to frame it for myself... and since Todd is my edward I think it is quite cute! The 2 cut-outs (heart and swirl thing) are cut-outs I did with my cricut. There is a quote from one of the books and our anniversary date posted below that. Using glitter embossing powder I made edward glitter which is about the only thing I can't seem to get Todd to do..lol. Sparkle Damit Sparkle!!! Anyway... Bella and Edward are colored with water color pencils and a blending medium. All the elements are inked around the edges with black and purple ink. And i used an embossing folder for the elegant texture behind edward and bella. Isn't it cute?!?
So the original idea for this card came from Dawn's Stampin' Thoughts. However, I changed it up a bit and got to play around with some new things. I used embossing powder for the first time today. I love the stuff! Both stamps are done with a glittery pink embossing powder. Since I don't have the link to the exact website ... Base is 8*4, scored landscape 2 and 4, front is 4*4 glued onto the 2 inch piece. I also tried this with a smaller front and it turned out really cute!
